What Causes Gynecomastia?
Testosterone and oestrogen are both stimulating to the human body. However, testosterone inhibits the development of breast tissue, whereas oestrogen stimulates it. These hormones are out of balance, which causes gynecomastia.
Gynecomastia can be caused by any disorder of the male sex organ that results in decreased testosterone production and a relatively higher oestrogen level. Infection, decreased blood flow, genetic disorders, and other conditions are examples of these disorders.
Aside from hormonal imbalances, there are a few other factors that contribute to gynecomastia. Malnutrition and medical conditions such as chronic renal failure, hyperthyroidism, and testicular tumours can all lead to gynecomastia. The conditions listed above can create a hormonal environment that can lead to gynecomastia.
A high percentage of body fat in the patient's body is another cause of gynecomastia. Fat storage in the chest region can result from a high body fat percentage at any weight. At high levels, this can trigger the conversion of testosterone to oestrogen.
Furthermore, drugs or medications are responsible for approximately 25% of gynecomastia cases in patients. Some drugs have a tendency to increase oestrogen production or to supply your body with substances that can be converted into oestrogen, such as testosterone. Alcohol, heroin, amphetamines, antihypertensive drugs, and anabolic steroids are just a few examples of drugs that can cause gynecomastia.
